PURNIA: The district magistrate (DM) and the government doctors are on a collision course flinging all kinds of charges and counter-charges following a protracted dispute between them in Purnia.
The Purnia chapter of Bihar Health Service Association (BHSA) members headed by secretary S K Verma armed with a unanimously adopted resolution called upon Purnia commissioner Sudhir Kumar on Wednesday and demanded immediate removal of the DM.
They also charged the DM with misdemeanour and insulting the doctors. Verma said that they had unanimously adopted resolution calling for a medical board to examine the mental status of the DM as he was “mentally unsound”, and often misbehaved with senior government doctors.
Besides, they have also threatened to go on indefinite strike if no action was taken against the DM in the next two weeks. They will, in the meantime, boycott any meeting called by the incumbent DM.
Purnia Civil Surgeon (CS) S N Jha, in a talk with TOI, alleged that the DM always maltreated him and heaped insults on him. The BHSA was compelled to adopt such resolution because of his behaviour and misdemeanour with him.
Purnia DM Rajesh Kumar, addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, rubbished the charges and insinuations against him and held that the Civil Surgeon (CS) was thoroughly incompetent and never discharged his official obligations properly.
He disclosed that he had already called for the immediate transfer for non-performing CS.
